J Balvin. A Ma Maniere. Union. OFF-WHITE. It’s been a big, big few months for the Air Jordan 2, but now it’s gotten bigger with the revelation of the Maison Château Rouge x Air Jordan 2.
The two parties return from their link-up on the Air Jordan 1 Mid in 2019, with co-founders Youssouf and Mamadou Fofana continuing their unique, African-inspired ethos on the 1987 classic. the Parisian-based imprint has gone all-out as they did on the Mid, but has forgone the vibrant palette and focused heavily on detail, texture, and material. It’s still colorful, of course — after all, MCR co-founder Youssouf Fofana is known for his frequent use of vibrant colors — but the saturations have been turned down a notch in favor of sail, orange, yellow, and chocolate brown. But the hues used takes a back seat to the pair’s impeccable construction, with crimp-cut tongue, eyestay and heel overlays, debossed textures on the mid panel and tongue flap, and premium suede and leathers utilized throughout. There’s a slew of added detail, like miniature toe caps, alternated perforations around the toe, and over-stitched tongues — but to truly appreciate its craftsmanship, take a gander through the image gallery further below.
